RoHS, is synonymous to Restriction of Hazardous Substances. RoHS, also known as Directive 2002/95/EC, it restricts the use of some materials that are found in electrical and electronic products that are hazardous. This directive originates from the European Union.


      RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU (RoHS 2) which is the RoHS update was made known and into law on january 2, 2013 was. In the RoHS2, more categories were included into the restriction which includes wide variety of industrial monitoring and control instruments and medical devices. RoHS 2 includes a CE-marking directive, with RoHS compliance now being essential for CE marking of products.

Some of this hazardous substance that should not be in the products includes mercury, cadmium, lead, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). In order for goods to be distributed in the EU, Manufacturers, owners, retailers, and importers needs to make standard.
